Application of Functional Membrane Materials

Membrane separation is a very important means of separation this year, and the performance of separation membranes such as brominated polyphenylene oxide (BPPO) membranes is a key factor in the success of this method. BPPO    It is a thermoplastic polymer with stable physical and chemical properties, excellent film-forming performance, and has shown good application prospects in gas separation. However, in practical applications, its performance is somewhat unsatisfactory. For example, due to the weak polarity of BPPO membrane, the separation efficiency of alcohol/n-pentane is not ideal. PVP and BPPO with strong polarity are blended to improve the polarity of the membrane material. By adjusting the ratio of PVP/BPPO, the membrane has appropriate flux and selectivity. Studies have shown that the performance of co mixed membranes with 10% PVP content is very obvious. For 6.4% methanol solution, the flux is 1.775g/m2. h at 30 degrees, and the selectivity is increased to 88%.

As an excellent adhesive, PVP is used as a cement binder in building materials, which can greatly improve the performance of cement, especially by increasing its compressive and seismic strength. As a Portland cement adhesive, it contains about 3% PVP (molecular weight 40000), over 90% sodium naphthalene sulfonate, and a small amount of formaldehyde, which significantly improves the strength of cement concrete.

PVP has good adhesion to glass, plastic, and metal, and is the main component in the production of special purpose hot melt adhesives. When used as an adhesive for glass and plastic, it has strong initial adhesion and high bonding strength. In composite materials reinforced with glass fibers, hot melt adhesives containing PVP can better bond glass fibers and other plastics.


In addition, PVP has important applications in conductive materials and various membrane functional materials, as well as in new material fields such as drag reducing materials, optical fibers, laser discs, photopolymer resins, and photosensitive materials.
